Tituba, black witch of salem essays
Tituba, black witch of salem essays There are things I found common and different since I came form Nigeria to United States. These things have taught me how to plan and how to set up goals in life. Choosing something, achieving them, as well as impacting others life had made me strong and independent. These things are education and Culture. Education is very important in Nigeria and in United States, it is obligated that parents should send their children to school to learn how to read and write. As a result, their children would become habituated, adjusted, and work well with the society. Also, in both countries educational levels are set up in same sort like Elementary, Primary, Secondary, and University. Moreover maturity and awareness determines the educational level of a child. On the other hand, both countries tend to have different method of helping parents and children attend school. For instance, paying school fees, in Nigeria families are not offer free schooling, parents do not have an option to borrow loan from any institutions, parents have more responsibilities; they are responsible for paying school fees, providing school supplies, and caring for the school organization. But in United States free schooling is provided for families, parents however have the options to borrow money from any instituti ons, parents have less responsibility; they send their kids to school while, government provides money, school supplies, and takes care of the school system. Another example are students, in Nigeria more students take their school work very seriously, they stress more to get good grades in school, they work hard to learn, and they dedicate themselves more in a lot of activities. They also value education because traditionally they exemplify as role model for their family and their country. Because of this reason many students in Nigeria are brought up with good behavior and being intelligent. But in United States few students hardly take ...

Okinawa Geography and 10 Fast Facts
Okinawa Geography and 10 Fast Facts Okinawa, Japan is a prefecture (similar to a state in the United States) that is made up of hundreds of islands in southern Japan. The islands comprise a total of 877 square miles (2,271 square kilometers) and has a population of over 1.3 million. Okinawa Island is the largest of these islands and its where Naha, capital of Okinawa Prefecture, is located. Okinawa made headlines around the world when a magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck the prefecture on February 26, 2010. Little damage was reported from the earthquake, but a tsunami warning was issued for the Okinawa Islands, as well as the nearby Amami Islands and the Tokara Islands. There are ten important facts to know when learning about orà traveling to Okinawa, Japan: The main set of islands making up Okinawa is called the Ryukyu Islands. The islands are then further divided into three regions called the Okinawa Islands, the Miyako Islands, and the Yaeyama Islands. Most of Okinawas islands are made up of coral rocks and limestone. Over time, the limestone has eroded in many places throughout the various islands and as a result, many caves have formed. The most famous of these caves is called Gyokusendo.Because Okinawa has abundant coral reefs, its islands also have a plethora of sea animals. Sea turtles are common in the southernmost islands, while jellyfish, sharks, sea snakes, and several types of venomous fish are widespread.Okinawas climate is considered subtropical with an average August high temperature of 87 degrees F (30.5 degrees C). Much of the year can also be rainy and humid. The average low temperature for January, Okinawas coldest month, is 56 degrees F (13 degrees C).Because of its climate, Okinawa produces sugar cane, pineapple, pap aya, and has many botanical gardens. Historically, Okinawa was a separate kingdom from Japan and was controlled by the Chinese Qing Dynasty after the area was annexed in 1868. At that time, the islands were called Ryukyu in native Japanese and Liuqiu by the Chinese. In 1872, Ryukyu was annexed by Japan and in 1879, it was renamed the Okinawa Prefecture.During World War II, there was a Battle of Okinawa in 1945, which led to Okinawa being controlled by the United States. In 1972, the United States returned control to Japan with the Treaty of Mutual Cooperation and Security. Despite giving the islands back to Japan, the U.S. still maintains a large military presence in Okinawa.Today, the United States currently has 14 military bases on the Okinawa Islands, most of which are on Okinawas largest main island.Because Okinawa was a separate nation from Japan for much of its history, its people speak various languages that differ from traditional Japanese.Okinawa is known for its unique architecture that developed as a result o f frequent tropical storms and typhoons in the region. Most of Okinawas buildings are made of concrete, cement roof tiles and covered windows. Sources Mishima, Shizuko. The Okinawa Islands, Mapped Out. Trip Savvy, March 26, 2019.

12 German Movie Recommendations For German Learners
12 German Movie Recommendations For German Learners Watching a movie in a foreign language is a fun and helpful way to help you learn the language. If youre at the beginning of your language-learning journey, look for films with subtitles, either in German or English translations, depending on your level of ability. But even if youre not a pro, letting your brain relax and not try so hard and just absorb the language on the screen taps into a different way of learning. Its how people naturally learn their native tongue: by listening and needing to understand. We asked our readers what movies were especially helpful to help them learn the language. Here are 12 of their German movie recommendations: 1. Sophie Scholl ââ¬â Die Letzten Tage,à 2005 Ken Masters says: Sorry, donââ¬â¢t have time to write a full review, but itââ¬â¢s not necessary- these films, especially Sophie Scholl, speak for themselves. And, if youââ¬â¢re interested in the history of film, then you have to watch the silent film Metropolis (1927). 2. The Edukators, 2004 Kieran Chart says: ââ¬Å"I would recommend ââ¬ËThe Edukators.ââ¬â¢ Itââ¬â¢s a really good movie and also has an interesting message. To add to that, ââ¬ËThe Counterfeitersââ¬â¢ (ââ¬ËDie Flscherââ¬â¢) is a really good German war movie concerning a Nazi plot to counterfeit English and American money and flood the economy with these false notes, bringing it to its knees. Then, of course, it would be remiss of me to not include ââ¬ËDas Boot.ââ¬â¢ Really worth a watch. Suspense doesnââ¬â¢t get better in a movie. Enjoy.â⬠3. ââ¬Å"Die Welleâ⬠(ââ¬Å"The Waveâ⬠), 2008 Vlasta Veres says: ââ¬Å"ââ¬ËDie Welleââ¬â¢ is also one of my favorites. The story starts with a simple high school workshop, where through a game, a teacher explains how fascism works. However, you can see how gradually students start getting carried away and start acting violently toward other groups. This movie perfectly depicts the psychology of a group and how humanness can step away in front of instincts inside us that are frightening. Definitely a must see.â⬠4. ââ¬Å"Himmel uber Berlinâ⬠(ââ¬Å"Wings of Desireâ⬠), 1987 Christopher G says: This ââ¬Å"is a film I have seen often; it never fails to challenge and force questions. Wonderful direction and script by Wim Wenders. Bruno Ganz communicates with silent gestures more than his words. Intriguing line: ââ¬ËIch weiss jetzt, was kein Engel weiss.ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ 5. ââ¬Å"Erbsen auf Halb 6,â⬠2004 Apollon says: ââ¬Å"The last film that I watched was ââ¬ËDrei.ââ¬â¢ Such a good movie. But Iââ¬â¢ve watched before a better one called ââ¬Å"Erbsen auf Halb 6,â⬠about a blind woman and a famous movie director who becomes blind after an accident.â⬠6. ââ¬Å"Das Boot,â⬠1981 Sachin Kulkarni says: ââ¬Å"The last German film I saw was ââ¬ËDas Bootââ¬â¢ by Wolfgang Petersen. This movie dates back to World War II and is about a submarine carrying a relatively young crew. Very good movie with a sad ending.â⬠7. ââ¬Å"Almanya - Willkommen in Deutschland,â⬠2011 Ken Masters says: ââ¬Å"A serious/comical look at Turks in Germany. Mostly lighthearted, but dealing with sometimes serious subjects and cultural differences.â⬠8. ââ¬Å"Pina,â⬠2011 Amelia says: ââ¬Å"Testimonials and dance moves created by the companyââ¬â¢s dancers make a beautiful tribute to the choreographer Pina Bausch.â⬠9. ââ¬Å"Nosferatu the Vampyre,â⬠1979 Gary NJ says: Werner ââ¬Å"Herzogââ¬â¢s ââ¬ËNosferatuââ¬â¢ from 1979 with Klaus Kinski and Bruno Ganz is very good. The scenery and music are great. A good creepy movie for fall or Halloween.â⬠This film is an art-house vampire horror flick. 10. ââ¬Å"Goodbye Lenin,â⬠2003 Jaime says ââ¬Å"... a bittersweet take on the fall of the Berlin Wall and the western economic change in East Germany, which he tries to hide from his ill mother.â⬠11. ââ¬Å"Das Leben der Anderen,â⬠2006 Emmett Hoops says: ââ¬Å"ââ¬ËDas Leben der Anderenââ¬â¢ is probably the most beautiful, most moving film to come out of Germany in the past 30 years. Another good one is ââ¬ËDer Untergang,ââ¬â¢ with Bruno Ganz as Hitler. It shows the insanity of National Socialism brought to its inevitable (and hotly desired by Hitler) conclusion.â⬠12. ââ¬Å"Chinesisches Roulette,â⬠1976 Anonymousà says: ââ¬Å"The climax of the film is the 15-minute guessing game of the title, with lots of questions of the form ââ¬Ëif this person were X, what kind of X would they be?ââ¬â¢ Plenty of practice with Konjunktiv 2.ââ¬

Critical Thought Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
Critical Thought - Essay Example The critical thought makes it seem as though modern democracies arose out of the thinking of the Ancient Greeks, or that governmental architecture mirrors classical Greek architecture naturally. This, however, ignores the massive historical gap that lies between the two time periods. The modern democracy, and modern nation state, arose not out of the polis, but out of the feudal system of the middle ages. Land ownership requirements existed in many countries into the 19th century for voting rights, for instance, a direct holdover from the feudal, not the classical world. To be truthful to history and to the truth of ourselves, we must recognize that our world in some ways mirrors the prototypes developed by the Greeks not because of natural evolution or happenstance, the mirrors exist because the creators of our societies have actively tried to copy and to call on aspects of ancient Greek culture in architecture, governance and

Answer questions related to psycholgy subject - Coursework Example According to the video, a teenager needs more than nine hours of sleep for his well-being. My parents always made sure that I get enough sleep especially during my exams. Although the quantity of time they spent with me in my teenage was less as they were both working; still, the quality of time they spent communicating with me was high which compensated for their not being present 24/7. Sometimes, I wished they could talk to me more often when I would feel stressed out or emotionally disturbed. The only thing that I wish my parents would have done in my teenage is taking me out so that we could spend some time together outdoors as well. I have learned that, in order to reduce stress, it is important to drag myself to relax physically and mentally. I should do meditation or yoga function to de-stress myself. I should calm down my muscles and tell myself to relax no matter how much stress I am into. Since stress affects oneââ¬â¢s ability to increase blood pressure and shut down pregnancy, it is something I should manage to save future inconveniences. High blood pressure cause cardiac problems which I definitely would not like to have, thus I will learn stress management techniques. How much control should parents have over their childââ¬â¢s genetic makeup is decided by Nature and not by the parents. No parents till date have been able to create the best baby according to their desires by manipulating with the genes, as the video says. Scientists believe that man knows very little of the complex machine that carries genes, and playing with genes is rather more complex. Man has been able to genetically modify animals and plants, but making changes to the genetic makeup of a child has not been possible as yet. Parents might want to operate with their unborn childââ¬â¢s genes but Nature has not given them full control over the genetic machinery. To foster healthy relationship with children, parents need to enjoy the bonding they share with them, play with them,

Government Class Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Government Class - Essay Example Republican and Democratic candidates for President, as evidenced by their campaign rhetoric, appear as if they agree on an issue. Both have espoused funding renewable energy sources such solar, wind, and bio-fuels but their motivations are as different as the ideological chasm that exists in the parties themselves. Democrats have made global warming a centerpiece of their campaigns and renewable energy is but a part of that while Republicans make only glancing mention of manââ¬â¢s influence on climate changes. Alternative forms of energy, according to Republicans are beneficial because it will reduce the amount of oil imported from the countries that support terrorism. In support of their global warming platform, Democrats also want to reduce pollution emitted from factories and increase the efficiency of automobiles. In addition, Democrats oppose the concept of liquid coal as a replacement for coal saying that it would produce greenhouse gasses at an unacceptable rate. Republican s generally support liquid coal. Mooreââ¬â¢s article points out that environmentalist groups have dismissed the Republican stance on renewable energy as ingenuous and motivated by political ambitions rather than concern for the environment. The Republicans make a good point. Encouraging the use of renewable forms of energy by investing federal funds, if advanced on a massive scale, may decrease the amount of foreign oil that must now be imported. Because much of it is found in the Middle East region of the world, this has historically been a volatile area and largely unfriendly to the U.S., not depending on this region for the countryââ¬â¢s ââ¬Ëlife bloodââ¬â¢ is a great idea. The Democrats mention this aspect of their renewable energy argument in passing and maybe they should bring it up more often to score more political points in the
Week 7 DQ Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
Week 7 DQ - Essay Example ââ¬ËRisk free rate of interest is the rate of interest on a debt instrument with no default, maturity or liquidity risk.ââ¬â¢ (Melicher & Norton, 2011) By definition the portfolio of government bond has liquidity and interest rate risk due to the length of its maturity period but for long-term investments the Treasury bond reflects as a more logical default free holding period return for longer term investments. Treasury bill is the closet example of the riskless securities as they hold zero or very minimal liquidity and maturity risk. The $250,000 portfolio of Treasury bills is more risk free as compared to the Treasury bind portfolio of 30 years maturity. However, government these days have also defaulted in various parts of the world therefore, there is no complete risk free security in the practical sense. Securities other than the government bonds and treasury bills that are close to the riskless concept are the fixed accounts, certificates of deposits, inflation protected securities and indexed bonds
